Shopping, otherwise referred to as retail therapy, may be the best thing ever invented; well, if you don’t count skinny jeans. However, if you are a shopaholic, or generally love yourself a good shopping spree every now and then, you know it’s not always a walk in the park.
For me shopping is not exactly something I plan for, some of my favorite shopping spots are literally on my way home. So sometimes I just find myself wearing my back pack in front (you don’t want to risk theft in the streets of Nairobi) and just trying out stuff, and of course taking home the cute ones.
But once or twice you’ll find me dedicating an entire day for just that. So far I’ve had nothing but good experiences.
Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.
Here are 10 tips on how to have an amazing shopping spree;
Make a shopping list
A shopping list is essential if you want to have an amazing shopping spree. Apart from avoiding impulse buying, one will help you get everything you intended to buy, and it will also make your escapades easier as you will know exactly where to go having in mind what you are looking for.
Start early enough
If you want to get the most out of your escapades, just don’t be an African timer. Personally I love being among the first people on a spot when they are just opening a new bail.
Bring enough money
By having a shopping list, you’ll have a rough idea of where your budget lies. You don’t want to be frowning just because you ran out of money. If you can, I’d advice on bringing extra, just in case you find something irresistible that you hadn’t planned for or find an item’s price hiked.
Explore! Don’t buy stuff from the first place you see, unless it’s really really really cute. You don’t want to find the exact item, or better, somewhere else for a cheaper price.
Go with a friend
I don’t remember the last time I went for serious shopping solo. However, don’t bring just anyone. It has to be someone you are close to, enjoy their company and someone who will give you good advice on stuff. Avoid someone who will tell you something isn’t good just because it’s not their style.
Relax! By appropriately I don’t mean the boring old “dress decently”. I mean wear something that won’t be a problem when you want to try on clothes. Go for super thin tights, stockings, or a dress. Every time I go shopping I put the idea of trying on skinny jeans in mind. That’s like my first priority.
Take care of your valuables
Nothing ruins a shopping spree like losing your stuff.
Carry a big bag
This is like the ultimate rule. You certainly don’t want to waste money, which you’d otherwise spend on something better, buying extra bags for package. This is one way to shop on a budget.
Bring a snack
Personally I just bring water. I avoid buying snacks here and there as much as I can, but grabbing a bite after the long, but oh so worth it day, never hurts anyone.
10. Be in the mood
Don’t go shopping when you are tired or not feeling it. You won’t explore the market as you should, ’cause you will keep counting the minutes for when you will leave.
I hope the list helps you to make the most out of all your shopping experiences.
